General
The existing Bospoort Bridge has reached the end of its lifespan and is making way for a completely new bridge. At the same location, a movable table bridge will be constructed with a width of 7 meters, exclusively intended for pedestrians, cyclists, and public transport. When large vessels pass, the bridge can be lifted vertically.
The surrounding area will also be renewed. On the right bank, a lowered towpath will be built with an access ramp to the Station Square. Both banks will be finished with precast concrete quay aprons and masonry for a durable and high-quality design of the canal zone.
The new Bospoort Bridge is part of the upgrading of the Canal to Charleroi. With these and other interventions, accessibility for inland navigation will be improved and container transport by water will receive an additional boost.
Civil Engineering
BM Engineering Group carries out – commissioned by Besix – the complete civil engineering study of the basement abutments, quay walls including precast quay aprons, and the access ramp on the right bank (U-shaped troughs).
